After the Euromaidan revolution in Ukraine, many international donor agencies
provided financial and technical support for the transition of Ukraine. This paper
examines the influence of the European Union (EU) along with international
financial institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary
Fund (IMF) in the economic transformation of Ukraine in the post-Euromaidan
period, that is since 2013/14. The study focuses on support in several sectors,
namely energy, banking and financial institutions, taxation and agriculture. The
support for Ukraine’s economic transition is seen as very important, but there are
still plenty of shortcomings on the part of the donors and international financial
agencies, including the EU, in implementing their plans and recommendations.
While plenty of headway has been made in the energy and agriculture sectors,
numerous complications and hurdles in the adoption of the plans and policies still
persist in other areas, primarily in the banking sector.
